The resin used in making silicone bonded mica sheets is silicone resin, a family of resins known to remain flexible and elastic even after being fully cured and capable of surviving high temperatures that would have melted epoxy or phenolic resins. This makes the mica sheet able to be molded and bent to conform to coil and conductor shapes.

Understanding Phlogopite Mica Sheet vs Muscovite Mica

Flexible mica insulation sheets are made usually from either of these two minerals: muscovite mica and phlogopite mica sheet. Both materials provide great electrical insulating qualities and heat resistant features, but each material has a different performance characteristic. Phlogopite mica is characterized by higher resistance to constant heat above 500-600°C, as well as the ability to preserve its electrical features in high temperatures.
